Embedded projects rarely fail because nobody is working hard enough. They get stuck because the architecture is wrong, decisions take too long, scope keeps changing, or complexity grows faster than the team can control it.
The result is familiar: missed deadlines, chaotic codebases, rigid legacy systems, repeated rework, and engineers spending more time managing problems than building the product.
HALready takes a different approach.
More technology does not automatically create a better embedded system.
HALready starts with the product requirements, hardware constraints, compliance needs, and business goals. Then we choose the simplest architecture that can meet them reliably.
That could mean bare-metal programming for a resource-constrained device, an RTOS for deterministic behavior, or Embedded Linux when the product needs more processing power and flexibility.
We do not add AI, cloud infrastructure, or other complex technologies unless they create measurable value for the product.
This Lean Engineering approach reduces unnecessary development work, technical debt, and cost while keeping the project focused on a fast time to market.
Slow approval chains can turn small technical questions into weeks of lost development time.
With Autonomous Scope Engineering, senior engineers work directly on the technical scope and make engineering decisions within clearly agreed boundaries. Clients get direct access to the people building the solution instead of routing technical discussions through layers of account management.
This allows the team to detect risks earlier, resolve bottlenecks faster, and adapt when requirements or technical realities change.
HALready uses its own lightweight Agile Scrum framework to make development faster and more predictable without adding unnecessary process.
We use the parts of Scrum that help engineering move forward and avoid process for process’s sake. Scrum serves the engineering. The engineering does not serve Scrum.
Our Remote-First Collaboration model also allows us to build around the technical expertise a project actually requires, rather than limiting the team to specialists available in one location. Clear milestones keep responsibilities and delivery structured throughout development.
And clients do not need to constantly monitor the project to know where it stands.
Every two weeks, they receive a one-page project overview covering progress, upcoming work, key decisions, and emerging technical or scope risks. This is followed by a short project review where HALready walks through the status and demonstrates tangible progress through videos, screenshots, or live demonstrations where appropriate.
Clients can use these reviews to ask questions, make decisions, and introduce new requirements while there is still time to act on them.
The result is proactive transparency: you know what has been completed, what comes next, and where a technical or scope risk needs attention before it becomes a delay.
The right embedded architecture depends on the hardware, not on a preferred technology stack.
Processing power, memory, power consumption, latency, interfaces, security, and product requirements determine whether a system needs bare-metal firmware, an RTOS, Embedded Linux, Edge AI, or a combination of these technologies.
HALready provides embedded software engineering services across this complete stack, with architecture decisions driven by what the product actually needs.
When hardware resources are limited or timing must be predictable, adding a complex operating system can create more problems than it solves.
HALready develops bare-metal software for resource-constrained environments where direct hardware control, low overhead, and efficient use of memory and processing power matter.
For systems that need deterministic task scheduling and real-time behavior, we develop with real-time operating systems (RTOS). This allows time-critical functions, communication, sensor processing, and control tasks to run with clearly defined priorities.
Depending on the hardware and project requirements, development can include Python, C/C++, Bash, Rust, microcontroller interfaces, and FPGA integration.
The architecture stays as lightweight as the product allows, helping control hardware requirements, development effort, and long-term maintenance costs.
When a device needs more processing power, complex networking, advanced interfaces, or desktop-level computing capabilities, Embedded Linux can provide the right foundation.
HALready handles embedded Linux integration from the hardware layer upward. This includes Board Support Package (BSP) development, device drivers, boot processes, system configuration, and custom Linux distributions built with Yocto.
Because the Linux system is designed around the target hardware, unnecessary components can be removed while the software stack stays focused on the functions the product actually requires.
The result is a maintainable platform that can support more demanding applications without forcing the product into an unnecessarily complex architecture.
Not every AI workload belongs in the cloud.
HALready integrates Edge AI and machine learning when local processing creates a clear product advantage. Devices can process sensor, image, or operational data directly on the hardware instead of continuously sending raw data to external infrastructure.
For autonomous robotics, this can reduce dependence on network availability and support faster local decisions. For medical technology and other privacy-sensitive applications, local processing can also reduce the amount of sensitive data that needs to leave the device.
Edge Computing can also reduce cloud traffic and recurring infrastructure requirements.
The decision starts with the use case, available processing resources, power and thermal limits, and expected ROI. If AI does not add meaningful value, we do not add it.
Connected products need more than a working wireless connection. Communication must remain reliable, maintainable, and secure throughout the product lifecycle.
HALready supports IoT device development across technologies and protocols including Wi-Fi, LTE/GSM, LoraWan, Bluetooth, RS485, and MQTT. We design connectivity around the device environment, bandwidth requirements, power constraints, and the systems it needs to communicate with.
For deployed devices, OTA (Over-the-air) updates provide a controlled way to deliver firmware fixes and product improvements without physical access to every unit.
Security requirements can also influence firmware architecture, authentication, communication protocols, and update mechanisms from the beginning.
The result is connectivity designed as part of the embedded system, not added as an afterthought.
HALready helps product teams build the Embedded Software foundation with their hardware needs to move beyond the prototype stage.
Fast development should never mean discovering safety or compliance problems at the end of the project.
For automotive, medical, and industrial embedded systems, functional safety compliance can influence the architecture from the first technical decision. HALready considers safety requirements, failure behavior, hardware constraints, software structure, verification, and security early in development.
The goal is not just code that works. It is an architecture built to support verification, documentation, and certification.
Safety-critical systems need predictable behavior when components, software, or communication paths fail.
HALready develops embedded architectures with functional safety requirements in mind, including projects where SIL3 requirements and PLd development are relevant.
This can affect software partitioning, redundancy, diagnostics, error handling, communication, hardware selection, and verification strategy. Addressing these requirements early reduces the risk of major architectural changes when the product reaches validation.
HALready’s functional safety experience includes sensor systems using radar, LiDAR, thermal imaging, and RGB video for human-presence detection at SIL3 level.
Depending on the product and application, HALready can also develop with relevant functional safety standards such as IEC 61508-2 in mind.
A connected device is only as secure as its chain of trust.
HALready can integrate Secure Boot and cryptographic systems into the embedded architecture to help prevent unauthorized software from running on the device.
Security requirements can also shape firmware updates, authentication, key handling, communication, and OTA update mechanisms. Building these controls into the architecture from the start is more effective than trying to add security after development.
Functional safety and fast time to market are not opposing goals.
When compliance requirements are known early, engineers can make architecture and implementation decisions around them instead of redesigning the system later.
HALready combines accelerated embedded software development with proactive risk detection and compliance-aware engineering. This keeps speed focused where it belongs: faster decisions and less rework, not shortcuts on safety.
production process
You should know what happens next before you commit engineering budget.
HALready structures embedded development around clear technical decisions, defined milestones, and regular visibility from the first feasibility discussion to Start of Production (SOP).
Every engagement starts with a Free Product Sparring Session.
We discuss the product requirements, current architecture, hardware constraints, technical bottlenecks, compliance needs, and target timeline. The first goal is feasibility: understanding what is technically realistic and identifying major risks before development begins.
We also challenge unnecessary complexity. If a simpler architecture can achieve the required performance with less development effort, that becomes part of the discussion.
Once feasibility is clear, we translate the product requirements into an actionable engineering scope.
The workshop aligns hardware and software architecture, technical priorities, project milestones, dependencies, compliance requirements, and expected development effort.
We also consider ROI when evaluating major architecture choices. A technically impressive solution makes little sense if it adds cost and development time without creating meaningful product value.
The workshop brings together senior engineers and project leaders with at least 15 years of experience to map the project through Start of Production (SOP) and estimate the required effort.
Uncertainties, assumptions, and constraints are documented separately so technical and commercial risks remain visible from the beginning.
The outcome is a milestone-based project plan and offer, reviewed and refined with the client before development begins.
HALready has an active pool of around 30 senior engineers across embedded software, Embedded Linux, firmware, electronics, Edge AI, connectivity, and functional safety.
For each project, we select the engineers whose experience best matches the architecture, technical challenge, and development phase.
When a project requires additional specialist expertise, our academy activities continuously expand our network with engineers from Germany and across Europe. We can also draw from a network of more than 2,000 engineering profiles when the required capability is not available within our active pool.
Clients work directly with the senior engineers building the solution. This keeps technical decisions close to the people who understand their consequences.
HALready provides a complete development environment built around embedded systems engineering, giving developers the tools and services they need to work efficiently without spending unnecessary time setting up or maintaining their own development infrastructure.
Once development starts, the project should never become a black box.
HALready uses clear milestones, proactive risk detection, and bi-weekly status reporting to keep progress visible.
You know what has been completed, what comes next, which decisions are required, and where technical or scope risks could affect the roadmap.
When requirements or engineering realities change, the team raises them early instead of allowing hidden problems to become missed deadlines.
Development does not stop when the software works on a test bench.
HALready keeps integration, validation, maintainability, hardware constraints, and production requirements in view as the system moves toward Start of Production (SOP). Senior team members bring hands-on experience from setting up complete SMD production lines, adding practical manufacturing insight to the industrialization process.
The objective is a clear path from feasibility to a production-ready embedded system, with fewer late surprises and engineering decisions that can survive beyond the prototype.

Your product remains your product
hen you bring an external engineering team into embedded development, they may gain access to source code, proprietary algorithms, hardware designs, product roadmaps, and other sensitive technical information. Ownership and confidentiality cannot be an afterthought.
HALready builds both into the engagement from the start.
For software and other work products developed specifically for the client, HALready typically grants exclusive rights to use and commercialize the work.
Where existing HALready software, libraries, tools, or reusable modules are used to accelerate development, the client receives the appropriate rights of use while HALready retains the underlying IP. Open-source components may also be incorporated where appropriate, with the applicable license terms communicated transparently.
These approaches can be combined within a project, with the exact IP and usage rights defined during the contract phase.
At handover, the goal is clear rights and access to the code required to maintain, extend, or transfer the product without unnecessary dependency on HALready.
Sensitive information can appear before development even begins.
HALready uses Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDAs) to protect confidential information shared during technical discussions and throughout the engineering engagement.
This can cover proprietary algorithms, product concepts, architecture, source code, hardware designs, technical documentation, and other confidential project data.
Before a project starts, an NDA governed by German law can be put in place, and every HALready engineer involved in the project signs the confidentiality agreement. Clients can also provide their own NDA for review and use.
This keeps confidentiality requirements clear before sensitive technical information becomes part of the development process.
Good embedded software engineering should give you control over your own technology.
HALready focuses on clear documentation, maintainable architecture, and structured code handover so your internal engineers or future development partners can continue working with the system.
A typical handover includes the source code, architecture documentation, and software documentation. For larger projects, this can also include system requirements and software requirements documentation, depending on the project scope.
You get an engineering partner without giving up control of the product you are building.
The same embedded architecture does not work for every industry.
A medical device may prioritize traceability and compliance. A robot may need deterministic control and local processing. An e-mobility system may depend on reliable communication with a battery management system (BMS).
HALready applies its embedded systems engineering capabilities around the technical and regulatory realities of each product.
Energy systems often combine long product lifecycles with demanding requirements for reliability, connectivity, and remote operation.
HALready develops embedded software for connected energy products, including device control, sensor integration, communication interfaces, data processing, and secure remote updates.
The architecture can combine RTOS, Embedded Linux, industrial communication, and IoT connectivity depending on the processing and hardware requirements of the product.
Robotics brings control, sensing, communication, and computing into one tightly connected system.
HALready engineers embedded systems for these constraints, from real-time control and hardware interfaces to Embedded Linux and Edge AI.
Local processing can help autonomous systems react without depending on continuous cloud connectivity, while the right RTOS or bare-metal architecture can support time-critical control closer to the hardware.

Medical technology leaves little room for architecture decisions that create compliance problems later.
HALready develops embedded systems with functional safety, security, traceability, hardware constraints, and regulatory requirements in mind from the start.
Depending on the application, this can include device-level firmware, RTOS, Embedded Linux, secure communication, and Edge AI for processing sensitive data locally instead of relying entirely on cloud infrastructure.
A connected consumer product has to remain reliable long after the first successful prototype.
HALready supports IoT device development across embedded firmware, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, MQTT, secure connectivity, and OTA (Over-the-air) updates.
We consider connectivity, power consumption, hardware resources, updateability, and maintainability together so the software architecture supports the complete product lifecycle.
HALready GmbH works within a network of DACH-region engineering experts and has supported established companies including Bosch Home Comfort and Vorwerk.
For Bosch Home Comfort, HALready supported embedded development for a smart gateway for heat pumps, including Yocto, Ethernet implementation, EEBUS integration, and architecture and process documentation.
The client highlighted HALready’s ability to quickly adapt to different technical challenges while consistently delivering high-quality results.
For engineering teams, that means embedded expertise grounded not only in a technology stack, but in the reliability, documentation, security, and execution standards expected in German industrial development.
