From Concept to Compliance
Getting an AI model to work is one thing. Getting it to work reliably on an embedded device is another.
Moving AI from a development environment onto a physical product means making the electronics, processing architecture, embedded software, and machine learning model work as one system.
HALready brings these disciplines together.
We develop custom hardware components and local machine learning solutions for embedded systems, covering everything from PCB design and processing unit selection to Embedded Linux, hardware acceleration, algorithm development, and local AI processing.
By running inference directly on the device, we help product teams build embedded AI solutions with lower latency, less cloud dependence, stronger data privacy, and reliable operation even when connectivity is limited.
With onshore engineering teams in Germany and experience working to established German and European engineering standards, HALready gives EU product teams one engineering partner from technical feasibility to a production-ready embedded system.

Embedded AI projects rarely fail because of one bad component. They slow down when hardware, embedded software, and machine learning development stop moving together.
The PCB changes, but the software team is working against the previous revision. The AI model performs well during development, but exceeds the memory or processing limits of the target hardware. Bugs appear between layers, ownership becomes unclear, and every fix creates another dependency.
Add separate hardware and data science partners to the project, and coordination itself can become a development bottleneck.
HALready reduces that friction by treating Edge AI as one engineering system.
Through autonomous scope engineering, our engineers take responsibility for clearly defined technical scopes and move them forward without requiring constant coordination from your internal team. Hardware, embedded software, and local machine learning decisions are made with the complete product in mind.
For legacy systems, that can also mean identifying where technical debt should be removed, what can remain in place, and which components need replacement before adding local AI creates even more complexity.
Bi-weekly status reporting and proactive transparency keep risks, technical decisions, and changing requirements visible throughout development.
The result is fewer handover gaps, less time spent coordinating suppliers, and a clearer path toward production without letting technical debt or scope changes quietly push back your Time to Market.

Sending every sensor reading to the cloud is not always the best architecture for an embedded product.
With Cloud AI, data must leave the device, travel across the network, reach the cloud for inference, and return before the system can act. Network conditions therefore become part of your response time.
With Edge AI, inference happens directly on the device.
Local AI processing can provide:
The trade-off is hardware.
Running machine learning models locally requires enough processing power, memory, and energy efficiency. Depending on the workload, that may mean selecting the right MCU, processor, or Neural Processing Unit (NPU) and optimizing the model for the available resources.
For products handling personal data in the European Union, keeping appropriate processing local can also support data-minimization and privacy-by-design strategies under GDPR. It does not make a product automatically GDPR compliant, but it can reduce unnecessary transfer of sensitive data.
The right architecture is not always Edge or always Cloud. HALready evaluates the workload, latency, connectivity, privacy, power, and hardware requirements to determine what should run locally and what still belongs in the cloud.

Embedded AI works best when the hardware and machine learning architecture are designed around each other from the beginning.
HALready brings electronics, Embedded Linux, hardware acceleration, and algorithm development into one engineering workflow. This reduces handovers between disciplines and helps technical decisions made early in development support the final AI workload.
Before building the final hardware, we validate whether the AI workload can realistically run within the product’s processing, memory, power, thermal, and cost constraints.
HALready supports rapid prototyping, hardware architecture validation, custom PCB design, and processing unit selection.
A key decision is whether the application needs a Microcontroller (MCU), a more powerful application processor, or dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) acceleration. The answer depends on the model, inference requirements, interfaces, power budget, and product constraints.
Making that decision early prevents teams from discovering late in development that the selected hardware cannot efficiently run the required model.
Once the hardware architecture is established, the software stack needs to use that hardware efficiently.
HALready integrates Embedded Linux, drivers, cross-compilation toolchains, AI runtimes, and hardware acceleration into the target platform. Where an NPU is available, we optimize the deployment so supported workloads can use dedicated acceleration instead of unnecessarily loading the CPU.
This can improve inference performance while helping control power consumption and freeing processing capacity for other device functions.
The result is not simply Linux running on a board. It is an embedded software foundation designed around the AI workload and the physical constraints of the product.
The final layer is turning the product’s data into useful decisions.
HALready develops and deploys machine learning algorithms for applications such as computer vision, predictive maintenance, smart sensor systems, and natural language processing on offline devices.
Models are developed with the target hardware in mind, then integrated and optimized for local inference rather than treating deployment as an afterthought.
This full-stack approach connects the custom PCB, processing architecture, Embedded Linux environment, and machine learning model from prototype through deployment.

When machine learning influences a physical system, a wrong prediction can become more than a software error.
In medical devices, industrial equipment, robotics, or other safety-critical systems, Embedded AI must operate within an architecture that keeps system behavior controlled, secure, and predictable, even when the model produces an unexpected result.
HALready approaches AI as one part of the complete safety architecture.
That can mean defining deterministic safety mechanisms outside the AI model, validating failure states, implementing secure embedded systems, and designing hardware and software around Functional Safety requirements such as SIL3 and PLD.
For products entering the European market, regulatory requirements also need to be considered early. The EU AI Act can introduce obligations based on how an AI system is classified and used, while GDPR affects how personal data is collected, processed, stored, and transferred.
Building these requirements into the architecture early helps avoid expensive redesigns, certification delays, and compliance issues closer to production.
HALready combines Embedded AI engineering with experience in Functional Safety and European engineering requirements, helping teams build systems that can meet demanding technical and regulatory expectations without treating compliance as a final-stage checklist.
For enterprise and industrial teams, that means a more predictable path from AI development to a safe and compliant production rollout.
Embedded AI creates the most value when local intelligence solves a specific product or operational problem. From medical technology to robotics and e-mobility, processing data directly on the device can enable faster decisions without depending on constant cloud connectivity.
Medical devices can use local machine learning to analyze sensor data, support diagnostic functions, and monitor patients in real time.
Processing sensitive data directly on the device can reduce unnecessary transmission of patient information while allowing critical functions to continue without a continuous cloud connection.
The engineering challenge is combining reliable local inference with secure data handling, constrained hardware, and the strict safety requirements of medical technology.
Robots need to interpret their environment and react quickly.
Local machine learning can process data from cameras, vibration sensors, position sensors, and other smart sensor technology without waiting for a cloud response. This supports applications such as object recognition, predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, and autonomous robotics control.
The result is faster local decision-making and continued operation even when network connectivity is limited.
Embedded intelligence can help vehicles, charging systems, batteries, and energy devices make better use of the data they already generate.
Local models can support battery management, energy optimization, condition monitoring, and real-time analytics directly on the device. For example, machine learning can identify operating patterns or early signs of degradation without continuously sending high-volume sensor data to the cloud.
This gives engineering teams another way to improve efficiency and system awareness while keeping response-critical processing close to the hardware.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
Not always. Existing hardware may already have enough processing power and memory for local machine learning, particularly when the model can be optimized for the available resources.
In other cases, an MCU, application processor, or Neural Processing Unit (NPU) may be required. HALready evaluates the existing architecture first so hardware is replaced only where the AI workload actually requires it.
HALready operates through a German GmbH, providing EU-based clients with a clear contractual framework for outsourced engineering.
Normally, 100% of the project IP is provided to the client under an exclusive license. An NDA is also signed before the project begins to protect confidential information shared during the engagement.
This gives both sides clarity around IP rights, confidentiality, and usage before development starts.
Local inference is constrained by processing power, memory, storage, thermal limits, and power consumption. Larger or more complex models may require hardware acceleration through an NPU or another suitable processor. The engineering challenge is matching the machine learning workload to the available hardware so the model can run reliably without creating unacceptable latency, heat, or power requirements.
Project costs depend on the technical scope, existing architecture, engineering risk, and whether HALready is responsible for hardware development, embedded software, machine learning, or the complete stack.
HALready provides a timeline and transparent cost estimate before development begins. Projects can then follow one of two models:
Time and materials: Best when the scope or technical requirements are still evolving.
Fixed price: Available once the scope is clearly defined.
Estimates can use methods such as PERT to account for uncertainty and create a more realistic view of the expected engineering effort.
This gives clients visibility into the expected timeline, scope, and investment before committing to development.
